Join The Community Music School of the Piedmont on Sunday February 10th at 5:30pm at Barton Oaks for our 12th Annual Candlelight Concert featuring acclaimed bassist, Donovan Stokes.
This concert is our sole, annual fundraising event and raises critically need scholarship and outreach funds for CMSP.
Described as a musician who “paints primary colors and subtle shades to considerable effect,” double bassist Donovan Stokes is noted for his “eye-popping display of technical wizardry and showmanship.” As a composer, he has enjoyed a variety commissions featuring the double bass and recently premiered his second Concerto for Double Bass in San Francisco, CA. His recording Gadaha garnered two JPF Music Award nominations and rankings, for Best Album and Best Instrumental Song. Currently a Full Professor at Shenandoah University-Conservatory, Dr. Stokes is also a Board Member for the International Society of Bassists, and Artistic Director of the Bass Coalition and their Annual Bass Workshop.
